King Charles III has been using the telescopic sights on his security team’s rifles to help locate salmon while fly fishing, according to reporting by the Daily MailThe newspaper says the King, a keen fly fisherman, recently enlisted armed protection officers equipped with military-grade rifles and polarised lenses to scan rivers for fish and quietly relay their positions to him through an earpiece.

A source told the paper that while Charles was fishing at Delphi Lodge, he was surrounded by a “two-mile radius of security”, with officers positioned in trees overlooking pools where salmon were holding. The Mail reports that Charles also caught a salmon on the River Spey last summer, a feat described by one gillie as “no meagre achievement”.

Despite the high-tech assistance, the King is said to favour traditional methods, using a split cane rod and practising classic overhead casting.Charles has fished at Delphi Lodge since the mid-1990s and has previously painted landscapes of the surrounding valley, the newspaper adds.

Hate to think what the UK taxpayer bill would be for this angling aid?

Gadzooks! What has come over King Charlie?
This seems akin to the ugly use of thermal gear in deerstalking. Hope Charlie doesn’t use that!
