It’s more important than ever, in the continuing urbanisation of New Zealanders, to ensure youngsters grow up to have an affinity with Nature. Prolific nature history writer and illustrator duo Andrew Crowe and Dave Gunson have set out to assist towards this with this book aimed at children aged 2-11 years.
“Natures Alphabet” takes the young reader on a journey around New Zealand’s wild places, and through the alphabet, seeking out the curious and the fascinating from our flora and fauna. Among the creatures covered are bitterns, cave weta, the extinct Haast eagle, inanga, kakapo, katipo spider, quail, blue duck and jumping spider to name just several.
This is a welcome republishing of a highly successful kids’ book. After its first publication “Nature’s Alphabet” was shortlisted for the New Zealand Post Children’s Book Awards in 1999 and subsequently reprinted several times. Due to popular demand, the book has finally been republished.
It is sure to both fascinate and educate young children.

“Wobble, Waddle, Toddle” is ideal for pre-schoolers, combining colourful watercolour illustrations, and fun rhyming verse while focusing on creatures from the deep south. Each page deals on one specific species ranging from penguins to seals, seabirds, dolphins, whales, orcas and even krill. It will help instil in tomorrow’s citizens an awareness and appreciation of wildlife. Even adults reading the verse at bedtime to the youngsters may learn a new thing or two!
